Text Box: Our history started when two local gay men from St. Louis attended their first Folsom street fair in San Francisco California in 2005.

The first thing that stood out of the large crowd of leather clad men and women were two men dressed in nun habits with festive white face makeup and eye catching attire. They were accepting donations at the gate for admittance into the fair. They learned that these individuals were “Sisters” of Perpetual Indulgence and part of the large, international organization that worked within the gay community raising funds for charities and entertaining along the way.

The idea that this kind of activity would fill a void in St. Louis immediately came to mind and so they received their calling and inspiration for building a house of sisters in Saint Louis, Missouri.

For a long time the two men perceived that in St. Louis, most of the gay organizations operated independently, including fund raising and activities. It was hoped that a new organization could provide a way to benefit multiple organizations and encourage more interaction between the various groups within the community.

Returning to Saint Louis, the men began to research the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence organization and its principles. Not only did the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence World Order promote joy and freedom to have fun, but they managed to raise money for many charities and non-profit organizations and provided safe sex materials at the very beginning of the AIDS crisis. In a very short time the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence began making a huge positive impact on the GLBT communities. Since their ‘not so humble’ start in the San Francisco bay area, new orders and missionary houses had started all over the US and the globe.

Their concepts of being “Dedicated to the Promulgation of Universal Joy and the Expiation of Stigmatic Guilt, Public Manifestation, Habitual Perpetration, Community Service and Outreach, Protecting and Promoting Human and Civil Rights” were catching on. The sisters of the world order were gaining wide spread acceptance and acknowledgement by making a difference in the communities they existed in.

This was exactly the kind of organization the two men from Saint Louis were looking to establish. Something different, something positive, something guaranteed and rewarding to gain the attention of their local community.

Thus the Gateway Sisters of Indulgence – Abbey of the Gateway Sisters was born. Our founding mother, Novice Sister Kristi Kream, co-founder Novice Guard Brian O’knowitall, along with the help of Novice Sister Raven Misbehaven and Novice Guard Eric O’Bear brought the philosophy to the St. Louis Missouri area.

On April 10th, 2007 the Gateway Sisters of Indulgence – “Abbey of the Gateway Sisters of Saint Louis” were officially recognized by the The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc.

The next stop on our journey is to fulfill our vows and commitments to our community and becoming a fully professed House of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
